The dream stela of Thutmosis IV / sphinx of Giza
The Dream Stele of Thutmose IV seems to refer to the desert patrols of Thutmose's forces to protect some of the gold mining routes in the eastern desert of Egypt from Nubian attacks and to strengthen Egypt's defenses. The Dream Stele was intended to justify the unexpected reign of Thutmose IV who is rarely mentioned as the conqueror of Syria and Nubia in the 8th century BC. The Dream Stele dated 1401–1391 BC New Kingdom attests to the Sphinx's promise to establish Thutmose IV as king of Egypt if he removes the sand from the Sphinx so that he can rule Egypt himself upon his father's death.

The confirmation on the three intricately carved Dream Stele shows the two sons offering sacrifices to the Sphinx promising to rule Egypt. As the Sphinx is buried up to her neck in the sand the sands of the desert cover me. You are my son and my protector. The young prince Thutmose IV stopped beneath the head of the Sphinx while hunting and soon fell asleep dreaming that the Sphinx told him that if the sand was removed and the Sphinx was rebuilt Thutmose IV would become the next Pharaoh.
