The statues of Maya a high-ranking official and his wife Merit are ancient Egyptian artifacts made of limestone they date back to approximately 1320 BC during the 18th Dynasty these statues represent wealth and social status and are said to symbolize their immortality Currently the pair is on display at the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in the Netherlands dressed in their finest attire and previously repainted.The tomb of Maya and his wife Merit was discovered in Saqqara Egypt in 1986. 


This discovery provides significant evidence of the artistry and belief in the afterlife of important figures highlighting the intricate details of their clothing and jewelry maya served as a treasury official during the reign of Tutankhamun in the period of the Revival of Traditional Egyptian civilization.


During the reign of Pharaoh Akhenaten the statues were reportedly painted and dressed in the finest clothing the 18th Dynasty marked the peak of ancient Egypt's power the Eighteenth Dynasty spanning until 1292 BC during the reigns of Pharaoh Tutankhamun and his successors is considered one of the most prosperous and powerful periods in ancient Egyptian history beginning with the ascension of Pharaoh Amos I who repelled the Hyksos invaders this dynasty witnessed a golden age of culture.
