The mystery of the Greek-Roman Temple of Isis

To the goddess Isis an unlikely collaborator, the story is told because certain events have taken place that have necessitated the use of her name. The similar acronym that the goddess will continue to exist as always the fleeting nature of the worldly events has inspired researchers to conduct fieldwork. Beginning this quest permission was granted to create a temple curtain in a temple in Hanguranketa near Kandy Sri Lanka, which shows Pattini. A useful article and introduction from the professor one of many ritual plays he had transcribed and translated based on fieldwork in Sri Lanka and India of the article “Isis and Pattini: The Transmission of a Religious Idea from Roman Egypt to India” JRAS Series 3.3.3. 1993 : 383.

Temple of Isis

In the time of Christian Egypt Greek-Roman traders arrived in that era colonized and crossed the Arabian Ocean on the Near Eastern route to India. After a two thousand mile sea journey they landed at a port known in the ancient world as Musiris. Some of the religious practices of these ancient traders are available in the past. The basis of the cult of Isis When parts of the world were dominated by the Greek and Roman empires Isis and Osiris became the focus of world religions and formed the basis of the most popular mystery cults. This was the time when small Near Eastern shrines were built in southwestern India to satisfy the popular demand for the Isis mysteries among the common people.

The cult of Isis and Osiris from Egyptian records which it is argued is the basis for a later timeline is one of the ancient Egyptian gods whose remains now include secret underground shrines invented in accordance with and derived from the ancient Egyptian gods. This mystery cult was dedicated to the ancient Egyptian goddess Isis. The rituals in the temple contained a strange presence that once housed the Buddhist/Zen goddess Patin. The temple used to house the gods. This temple is dedicated to the Goddess Kurumba-Bhagavati Devi which is located outside the city of Cochin or Kochi.

In the state of Kerala today there is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to the famous Hindu god Shiva and his fearsome consort Kali on the southwestern coast of India or Malabar. The architecture remains but has many characteristics of later cults that continue to this day. From the Pattini rituals once practiced at Kurumba-Bhagavathy Devi experts have identified the story of the death and resurrection of her husband as being related to the cult of Attis of the Near East. Southwest India responded to the needs of the merchants. The mysterious trading station of Isis was popular in the Near East India. It is said that this temple was once the site of the mystical ceremonies of the cult of Isis in which Osiris husband was also brutally killed but later resurrected by Isis's magical abilities.

The whole story from its beginnings on the banks of the Nile, the foundation of the most popular religion in Egypt. The story of Isis and Osiris has been traced by Egyptian and European archaeologists from its origins back to the Egyptian pyramids of the middle of the 2nd millennium BC and may be even older. Most of the material that describes the theory and the more reliable one is that the temple was once the site of a mystical ceremony for the cult of Isis where Osiris' husband was also brutally murdered but later resurrected by Isis's magical abilities.

The gods resting in the tomb of the undying stars of the sky for you are IPET the guardian. The cave dwellers rejoice because you are Hathor the goddess of the West. The gods sleeping on their bellies. The two truths in the hall of truth the idols on their banners. What are the two truths in the duat? The two in the lower order are different. In the leftmost scene Hadrian is shown offering maat to the dual figure of Mantu. In the right scene he is offering maat to a pair of gods Amun-Min and Mantu-Re. Mantu was a falcon-headed warrior god representing the power of the sun. The cult mysteries are well preserved especially the carvings on the inside of the naos. The arrangement also gives some clues to the mechanism of the cult worship that surrounded the inner shrine on the corridor of mysteries.

That is for those who have not yet been ordained, in one of the rooms on the north side there is a purgatory a crypt with a type of vault as is often found in religious buildings of this period. Again regarding the rite of Lucius it seems that the crypt was probably a place of training and that the trainees had to be allowed to walk around and access the inner chamber. Used for baptisms and rituals that are not suitable for non-religious people.

Finally the present building which marks the beginning of the hot summer before the monsoon rains, many rituals enliven the story in the mysterious society of Atikals who return to the temple to perform rituals. Most of these pilgrims are non-Brahmin ritual masters. Veliccappadu their name means “lighted mediums.” Other devotees who carry sticks, in their dances carry swords and sickles wear red robes and wear heavy anklets and bells. They are mediums men and women followers of Kali who prophesy during rituals.

In India especially the seafaring social class of the ancient world there is a building that is considered a repository of memories of the influence of new beliefs able to track the progress and some changes of the changing inhabitants while absorbing archaeological memories. The present building and the celebration of the Bharani festival which marks the beginning of the hot summer before the monsoon rains. Pagan rituals enliven the story. The disappearance of the famous Egyptian culture forever the famous mythological drama or passion of Isis and her murdered husband Osiris which is clearly remembered even in the current idiom.
