Seth plotted to kill her brother or husband. Seth imprisoned Osiris in a decorated wooden chest which he covered with lead and threw into the Nile River. The chest became Osiris's sarcophagus.

When Osiris was still trapped in his bosom at Byblos she searched everywhere for him. Eventually she found Osiris. Isis brought his body back to Egypt transforming it into a bird. With the help of her sister Nephthys Isis was able to reassemble the pieces of her dead husband's body. Only his genitals were missing. Isis used her magic to heal Osiris and became a mummy after being bandaged. Osiris did not die. Her husband was believed to still live after death and Isis gave birth to Osiris' son Horus. Osiris was forced to retreat to the underworld while Osiris became the king of the dead. Isis hid with Horus in the marshes of the Nile Delta protecting her son making her a protective goddess until her son was fully grown and able to avenge his father. Isis's cleverness in protecting her husband and son the perfect wife and mother of the Egyptians claimed the throne of Horus defending him from scorpions and snakes. Since Isis was the sister of Seth Isis's magic and revenge in the fight between Horus and Seth used spears and magic. Isis's magical cutting and reversal was able to reclaim the throne and there are many stories telling of Isis magical abilities.
