Pharaoh Khafre built a pyramid at Giza called Ver-en-Khafre. The Pyramid of Pharaoh Khafre was built around 2520 BC. It is the second largest of the Egyptian pyramid triangles after the Great Pyramid of Khufu From the Valley Temple to the pyramid you will see the Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Khafre nearby.
The pyramid was built by Khafre also known as Khefren The base of the pyramid is a square with the four bases pointing upwards forming the shape of a pyramid. It is made of limestone Each base is 215 meters long and is 136 meters or 448 feet high. The Pyramid of Khafre is the second largest pyramid. Each limestone block weighs more than 2 tons. The interior of the Pyramid of Khafre is less complex than that of Khufu. It is similar in appearance to the three original pyramids The larger of Khufu's father was built 10 meters 33 feet higher than the others not much higher The top is covered with a shell similar to that which covers the four pyramids at the apex
From the discovery of white limestone from the past, which is believed to have been used to build the pyramid one of the few remaining casing stones from the Great Pyramid. White limestone has a smooth shiny surface gleaming in sunlight. The smooth non-rough surface is like a staircase which can be seen brighter than modern limestone with a triangular pattern that stands up high giving the appearance of a white light emitting from the pyramid. By the 19th century from the Great Pyramid built for King Khufu around 2589-2566 BC these stones were used in other constructions. The limestone covering the pyramid came from a quarry at Tura 15 km north of Giza. The construction of the road to the base of the pyramid was carried out by the Egyptian government. Of the white stones among the ruins The construction of the Great Pyramid used about 5.5 million tons of limestone 8,000 tons of granite transported from Aswan 800 km away and 500,000 tons of cement some of which can still be seen at the base of the pyramid. As a result of work done by Charles Piazzi Smyth a Scottish astronomer in 1865 the first survey of the Great Pyramid was carried out. Authorisation was granted to carry out this work by the Viceroy of Egypt Ismail Pasha and aided by the Egyptian Antiquities Service with the Governor of Giza. When Piazzi Smyth returned to Scotland he brought the white stone to the UK in 1872

Since the time of Pharaoh Khufu the succession of construction in the ancient Egyptian empire in addition to the construction of the pyramids also built a large pharaoh statue next to the Sphinx The pharaoh statue used as a guardian of the tomb at Giza located next to the Valley Temple which is associated with the pyramids. The Valley Temple had the dual function of cleaning and mummifying the Egyptian kings before burial and the place of the pharaoh's burial.
The Pharaoh Khafre was buried in the pyramid after his death. The mortuary temple at the base of the pyramid was more elaborate than that of Khufu and contained 52 life-size or larger statues of the king. The interior was much simpler than that of Khufu with two corridors and one small chamber.
Only a few passages lead to the burial chamber which was demolished in ancient times. There is only one burial chamber In the past the body of Pharaoh Khafre was never found in the pyramid It is believed that it was opened before archaeologists in the early 19th century found a sarcophagus in the pyramid chamber Archaeologists found only a few animal bones but the burial place of Pharaoh Khafre was opened because thieves piled many offerings and buried them in the tomb A few hundred years after the pharaoh was buried in the monument in 1818 no one knew what was inside the second great pyramid at Giza the pyramid of Pharaoh Khafre The northern entrance is under sand and rubble At the western end of the burial chamber an empty sarcophagus was found and a note indicates that the pyramid was opened around 1200 AD
